Overall Impression
Average-strength to moderately-strong blonde ale with a balance of malt and hops. Czech experimental hops add a subtle bitterness and spicy and herbal flavour. The bitterness and hop flavour should be slightly more prominent than the pale malt notes. Drinkability and a refreshing quality are critical components of the style.
Aroma
Moderately light to moderate malty aroma, generally neutral or grainy, possibly with a light bread character, with no caramel. Hop aroma is moderately low to moderately high with spicy and herbal notes. Clean fermentation profile. Very low to low fruity, estery aroma is acceptable.
Appearance
Straw to deep yellow in color. Clear to brilliant. Due it is an unfiltered beer, light haze is accetable. Low to medium snow white head with fair to good retention.
Flavor
Intensity of bitterness should be medium to medium-high, but character should be mild. Soft maltiness can be moderately light to moderate with bready and grainy character. The balance is normally towards the hops or even between malt and hops. Finish is medium-dry to dry. Clean fermentation profile, but low estery flavour is optional. No diacetyl.
Mouthfeel
Medium-light to medium body. Medium to medium high carbonation. Smooth without being heavy.
Characteristic Ingredients
Low-color pale or pils malt acting as a blank canvas for the hop character. No adjuncts. The Czech experimental hops have to be used. Clean American, lightly fruity English, or Kölsch yeast.
